Aberdeen North

14. February 2005

Dear Claire Burt,

CONSULTATION ON WESTERN PERIPHERAL ROUTE AT KINGSWELLS.

I know concerns have been expressed by residents about the impact the Western Peripheral Rout will have. This is what I understand to be the plans.

The original proposal would have meant that the current road running to the West of Kingswells to Newhills may have formed one of the carriageways. These proposals were revised to push the slightly West, but not as far as Fairley House with bridging over the Consumption Dyke. Both of these proposals have been superceded by a fresh proposal.

It runs West of the Park & Ride, the Consumption Dyke and Fairley House and at its closest point to the Derbeth Estate is in excess of 200 metres from the village. At other points it may be up to 450 metres away from the village. Near Derberth the current proposal is for a cutting at least 4 metres deep. There will be more than 1 cutting, the maximum cutting depth is 15 metres deep on the route going round Kingswells and at its lowest point there will be an embankment.

details of noise mitigation measures such as bunding and planting are not yet complete. I did discuss with them the prospoects of using mature trees. While the AWPR team did not rule that out they did tell me that the success rate in transplanting mature trees was not good.

Consultation will take place in the reasonably near future (probably March) including meetings in Kingswells. I would be pleased to have your views so that I can make the appropriate representations on your behalf. If you wish to make representation directly you may do so by contacting the AAWPR team at Willowbank House, Willowbank Road, Aberdeen, Tel No 332300.

Yours sincerely
